KKHH

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai interpretations
So a friend and I watched KKHH today and I came up with yet a few more interpretations.
* When the little (dumb) boy at the Summer Camp starts to "talk" when Anjali leaves the camp with Aman, it means that both Anjali and Rahul should "speak" too. Even when they have not acknowledged their love for each other before, they must do it now. Because even a little boy who appared to be mute spoke, it is even more reason why the adults should speak up. Oen can "speak" in differnet ways: both vocally and in sign language. The mute boy vocally speaking up means that the adults must either speak vocally or in sign language (which Rahul does in the end when he tells Anjali that he loves her), as long as they "speak".
*When Anjali cries becasue she was going to lose Rahul, on the surface it might look like she is upset because she cannot get Rahul. However, one could interpret it differently. I think we could think that the reason she cried was NOT because she was going to lose Rahul, but that she was going to lose HERSELF. Anjali wanted to be HERSELF-and that included being independent, thinking independently, playing basketball with the boys, dressing in casual (boyish) clothes, not wearnig make-up or being concerned with appearance etc etc...but the fact was that being a tradtional (Indian) girl, she had to conform to Society's notions of expectations for women, and what was proper for women to do. Hence, she was almost forced to HIDE a part of herself (literally) by having to wear saris, make-up and the outward appearance of being too feminine. Her only respite was being with Rahul because he allowed her the freedom to express herself fully, including the parts that society did not approve of. Losing Rahul was actually like losing herself, and because she feared that more, that was the reason she grows despondent.
*Nature of Rahul's relationship wtih Anjali: Rahul liked Anjali and was best friends with her BECAUSE she was UNLIKE the other girls. He allowed her the freedom to be herself,to be different from other women, even if she could not do so in her home or with her family and caretakers. There is a reason why Rahul was best friends with Anjali: its because he could see a lot of himself reflected in her, and vice versa. The will to be different, to resist comforming to Society's notions of propriety-things he wanted to do himself-was done by Anjali.Although he would have wanted more from Anjali, he stilll marries Tina because he thinks that Tina is the more "appropriate" wife for him that Society would deem acceptable. However, their relationship does not last because their natures cannot let them sustain together, and hence (in an abstract way) Tina dies.Perhaps Rahul and Anjali (like Heathcliffe and Catherine) did not need a physical/sexual relationship in order to be happy. At least from Rahul's perspective, he did not think that his relationship wth Tina would affect his feelings for Anjali because no one could take Anjali's place in his life and there were certain needs in him that only Anjali could fulfill. Anjali, while also knowin that only Rahul knew her and accepted her in ways other people would not, grew depressed because she feared that Society would not accept the nature of their relationship if Rahul continued to "see" and "need" Anjali after he was married to Tina. She runs away from him becasue she could not bear to be near him and NOT be able to interact with him. She feared that he might grow away from her when she lived near him, and hence she permanently shifts herself to avoid that hurt in case Rahul should give into to conventions and start abandoning her infront of her eyes. However, things got only worse for her because once she goes home, she loses herself by hiding behind an exterior of (falsely defined) feminity. They both needed each other to find regain their true selves.
*Fate: When Anjali loves Rahul, could not marry him even though she wanted to, eventually she is rewarded and Rahul comes back to her. Does that mean that because Aman loves Anjali, cuold not marry her even though he wanted to, that he'll be rewarded too and that Anjali will come back to him later at some point just as Rahul came back to her?

Anne Of Windy Poplars

Ok now I haven't finsihed reading this book...but I just thought I might note down a point. About how iit's been set out more differently to the other books. It starts off with a letter from Anne to Gilbert. And throughout the book there are whole chapters of just letter from Anne to Gilbert. What do you think it shows? Liek why do u think Montgomery has set it out differently to the previous 3 books? Maybe because it's the first book that itsn't really part of the trilogy? Answer me that?

And why do you think LM Montgomery has divided the book up into First, Second and Third Year and had a few chapterrs in each? Any ideas?

Mangal Pandey

This is called 'The Rising' in Englush. Dunno if you guys have heard of it. But it's aloso got Rani in it and I REALLY REALLY want to watch this movie!!!!!!!1 Anywayz, I copied a review from a site if anyone's interested. It has quiet a histroical theme to it. Lots of space for work then!! (Yes!!) A period epic set against the 1857 Indian mutiny which fuses western and Indian filmmaking styles. The story of the friendship between an Indian soldier and British commander William Gordon. British colonial rulers are plundering the country for all its worth, treating the locals unjustly and causing widespread resentment. Worst of all they are using the Indians as sepoys, the infantry of the army, to control and regulate the population. After a hundred years of subjugation, India is awakening to the revolutionary prospect of change and self-rule. During a fierce battle in the Afghan wars of the mid-century, Mangal (Aamir Khan), a heroic sepoy rescues his British commanding officer William Gordon (Toby Stephens). The event creates a strong friendship and binding loyalty between them that transcends consideration of rank and race. The friendship is soon challenged, first by arrival of a charming and beautiful young aristocrat, Emily Kent (Coral Beed), and then by the introduction of controversial new gun cartridges among the troops. The relationship is complicated further when Gordon saves a beautiful young native girl, Jwala (Amisha Patel), from the funeral pyre of her late husband, and falls in love with her. The new cartridges require soldiers to bite through their greased casing, made of animal fat, and suspicion spreads that the British are ignoring religious beliefs in favour of cheap weapons, and polluting their Muslim and Hindu soldiers. Gordon assures Mangal that the cartridges are free from pollution and demonstrating his total trust in Gordon, Mangal bites the cartridge. They soon discover that it really is animal fat and the rumour of this imposed pollution is the spark that ignites the powder keg of resentment in the country. Mutiny breaks out with Mangal growing in stature to lead the Indian people to freedom. It honestly sounds good!!!!! And if they've released a movie in the THEATRES here it's gota be goood!!!!!!!!!!

Anne Shirley... A Life Of Dreams

Hye Nisha, I tried posting the essay on my blog and nothing comes up... like.. it just says Anne Shirley... A Life of Dreams as the title but there's nothing in the entry itself so I thought I might just post it here. Thanks! Love, Shalini The following essay has been copie from Nisha's livejournal blog since I couldn't be bothered to type it all up again. Thanks Nisha for typing it up tho. This is an essay me and Shal have been working on over the phone and on MSN for the past couple of weeks. We finally finished it yesterday and have decided to post it up on our individual blogs for everyone to see. Here it is: Anne Shirley... A Life Dedicated to the Imagination of Dreams By: Nisha Nidhi Muchhala Shalini Bindiya Shah Anne Shirley was and still is an inspirational figure whose life is the main focus in the majority of LM Montgomery's books. Having finished the Anne Trilogy (Anne Of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea and Anne Of The Island) we decided to do a series of three essays based on the books. This first essay however is dedicated solely to the deconstruction and interpretation of Anne of Green Gables. Throughout this entire book Anne is often lead astray by her imagination and romanticism. These imaginations interrupt Anne daily chores and conversations, leading her away from reality and into a world of dreams. This "escape" contradicts Avonlea's expectations of appropriate behaviour. In an abstract view point it can be assumed that Anne seeks to change the ideals of Avonlea by means of her imagination. This contradiction is especially seen in the relationship shared by Marilla and Anne. Unlike Anne, Mariila doesn't believe in imaginations and dreaming. She interprets goodness as decorum and sensible behaviour. Anne wants to please Marilla by acting obediently and following instructions but at the same time she finds irresistable pleasure in her wild fantasies. Anne as an infant, cannot differentiate between pure emotion and just sentimentality. Her fictional stories, which feature melodrama, true love and tragic loss let her imagination get out of control and see emotion and sentimentality as the same thing. For example, She and her friends work up a teary farewell to Mr Phillips even though they dislike him and she and Diana terrify themselves by imagining the woods to be haunted. This bond with sentimentality provides Anne with yet another escape but this time it is an escape from her true emotions. After the death of her parents Anne became a responsiblity no one wanted to take up. As a result she was not treated with the essential love and affection that every child needs and yearns for, but was neglected and not cared for. This experience let Anne feel the pain of true emotions and therefore she seeks her refuge in sentimentality, not wanting to face real emtion because she scared of the pain it might cause her again. Anne also likes this escape because the world of sentimentality from her stories and dreams allows Anne to control the situation, something she is unable to do with her own emotions. This gives her a sense of security and reassurance. Only when Matthew dies does Anne experience real loss. However, this time, instead of seeking comfort in the arms of sentimentality Anne, as a well adjusted women, is able to cope with her own emotions of loss, sadness, apin and agony. Her time at Green Gables enables her to face reality and not hide behind her imaginations as she used to. Fashion sense plays an important part in this books as well as it demonstrates the gradual acceptance of Anne at Green Gables. When Anne first arrives at Green Gables she is wearing ugly grey, torn dress which represents the neglect she has experienced previously. At Green Gables, Marilla intially gives Anne simple, sensible dresses without any sort of design on it. AS the years pass Matthew buys her a lovely dress with puffed sleeves. This results in Marilla also allowing Anne to have fashionable clothes. This demonstrates the gradual shift of Matthew and Marilla's feelings for Anne. At first, Marilla sees no reason to indulge Anne in fashion. But when Matthew defies Marilla and gets Anne the lovely dress Marilla also learns to love Anne as her own and sees appeal in dressing Anne fashionable. *Side note: Marilla's desicion to let Anne have fashonable clothing also represnts the change Anne has caused in Matthew. Before Matthew didn't dare speak against Marilla. Anne gave him the strength to buy the dress despite Marilla's objections. There is use of symbolysis in this book as well. Anne’s red hair symbolizes her attitude toward herself, which changes as the novel progresses. Initially, Anne hates her red hair. She thinks it a blight on her life and complains about it at every opportunity. Her loathing for her hair reveals her dislike of herself. No one has ever loved Anne properly, and she does not approve of her own mistakes and bad behavior. Later, Anne’s acceptance and fondness for her red hair symbolizes her acceptance of herself. Anne looks to the light from Diana’s window as a symbol of their eternal friendship. It is a familiar sight that gives Anne comfort at the end of the novel when she decides to stay in Avonlea and care for Marilla. Seeing the symbol of her loving friendship with Diana makes Anne feel better about sacrificing her ambition in order to do what she feels is the right thing.
